If walking behind the Hotel, Yes I agree with some of the comments on the Contiki Holiday Website, community forums it is a little bit of a shady neighbourhood. So Becareful. But if you stay on Market Street, in front of the hotel then it is fine. And as soon as you get two or three blocks away from the hotel it is fine, other than that - San Franciso is a very vibrant beautiful, breath taking city and i will be going back in a heartbeat.

"It is a few blocks away from Union Square. However, it was in a really shady area. I live in NYC, and even I didn’t feel particularly safe walking to and from the hotel. It was strange, because it was just around the hotel that it was shady – once you walked a few blocks toward Union Square it was perfectly fine. I would just be careful about going out after dark – make sure you are with a group of people." said juana1010.
The beds are super comfy. Starbucks in the lobby - so that was a treat waking up every morning and going down to get your morning coffee (something that stays apart of your routine while on tour). Business center with access to the internet. You can catch the F line train right outside the Hotel Doors.
You can pay extra with Contiki for an extra night stay in the hotel so you are already to go in the morning and won't miss your tour. I was unable to as i was too late so i had to book the extra night stay on my own but it was alright, $80 bucks a night in a single room. Rooms are small but that is to be expected in a city like San Francisco, California.
Pre-departure meeting - Our tour manager did not show up as he was late arriving so who was there we decided to go out for a drink, first went to a placed called, The Hot Spot - which was not really Hot. So we moved on and found a place called Smuggler's Cove. Now that was more of a Hot Spot. There was six of us which we "labeled" ourselves the "pre-departure group". ha ha had to be there!
Some days I miss everyone and the Tour, being in San Francisco - Great memories to start the New Year, 2011! For sure will be doing Contiki New Years every year for as long as i can...
